Before we get into the recipe, let’s explore how and why pineapples can be such a valuable ingredient in your natural skin care routine shall we?
Why You Should Add Pineapples to Your Skincare
Protects Skin from Damage: Pineapples contains vitamins A, vitamin C, beta-carotene, thiamin, vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B6, and folate. And minerals like potassium, copper, manganese, calcium, sodium, and magnesium. When applied topically to the skin, these nutrient’s antioxidant properties help to protect the skin from free radical damage which in turn slows down the aging process.
Clears Skin: Pineapples contain anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits, this helps to reduce the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads and acne and calms redness and swelling. It’s detoxifying and astringent properties goes a long way to reducing the appearance of large pores.
Brightens Skin: Pineapples are loaded with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s) which help to correct discolouration from scars and age spots leaving your complexion even.
Hydrates: Because of the fruits high high water content, it hydrates and refreshes the skin.
Anti-aging: It encourages the production of collagen which improves the skins elasticity and flexibility leaving it feeling smoother and firmer. Vitamin C aids in new cell growth and repairing tissues for more youthful looking skin.
Gently Exfoliates: Pineapples contain bromelain, a powerful enzyme that helps chemically exfoliate the top layer of skin, unclogging pores, removing excess oil, dirt and bacteria that’s accumulated during the day, leaving the skin softer and brighter looking!
How to Make a AHA Pineapple Face Mask
This mask is super simple to create, all you need are the ingredients and some sort of mixer. I found that my hand stick blender worked the best in getting all the pineapple fibres into a puree, but you can use a food processor, just add more pineapple than you need as my blades struggled with just a small amount (use the rest in a smoothy!). You can use a can of pineapples if you don’t have fresh on hand, but fresh is always best!
The coconut milk powder is very moisturising and contains high levels of vitamin C and copper which both help to maintain skin elasticity and flexibility leaving it smooth and supple. It’s also rich in copper which reduces wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots. You could substitute the coconut milk with any type of powdered milk you have on hand.
I also added a wee bit of rose water for all the extra benefits rose water provides my skin, or if your mix is already runny enough, use the rosewater as a face mist after your mask instead!

Mix: Cut your fresh pineapple into smaller chunks and put into a mixer or large bowl if using a stick blender. Mix until you have a nice smooth pulp. Then mix in your powdered milk until you have a consistency that will be easy to apply yo your face.
Apply: the mask to a clean face, either with your finger tips or a brush (I found it was easier to use my fingers for this mask), leave your mask on for no longer than 10 minutes.
Rinse: Wash off your mask using warm water and follow with rose water mist and facial oil or moisturiser.
Cautions: You can use this mask once a week, it’s recommended to use this mask in the evenings as the vitamin C content is known for making skin more reactive to the sun. As with all new ingredients, perform a patch test first to ensure you do not have a reaction to any of the ingredients.
